USA Today chats with Kristen Stewart & Dakota Fanning

From USA TODAY:
Me: Well, since we're at South by Southwest, one thing a lot of people want me to ask is what music you're into right now.
Stewart: Right. I listen to The Shins and Radiohead and Interpol. And we saw Band of Horses last night, and that was awesome, because they're, like, my favorite band right now. I love Camera Obscura and Jenny Lewis. I'm just pumping 'em out -- I never do this! I'm always like, "Oh, I don't answer that question."
Me: It's a hard one.
Fanning: I really hate that question. It scares me, it makes me nervous. Because I think people judge you a lot on the music that you listen to.
Stewart: It's so defining. Which is why people want to know, because it does say a lot about you.
Fanning: They want to categorize you.
Me: Well, those are good. And you saw Band of Horses, I almost went to that show.
Stewart: And Broken Social Scene. You seriously missed out. The chick from Metric came out and played one song with them. A long, anthem-y-type thing ... it was awesome.
Me: Oh, well. OK, next question! This is from Lauren: Would you ever consider being in a band yourself?
Fanning: I don't think so. I can only sing or perform if I'm playing a character and able to hide behind that character, so I would be too afraid to do it as myself.
Stewart: I love music so much. I play guitar, and I love playing it with my friends. But I hate the idea of something that's mine ... I'm used to making movies and having people take that from me. But to have my thing be somebody else's experience right now ... I could never be in a band. I feel the same way. I could only ever do that playing someone else.
Me: So you're not going to release an album?
Stewart: Oh, no.
Me: Here's one from Lynn: How much did the costuming, makeup, etc. help in the process of channeling these awesome female rockers?
Fanning: I think it helped me a lot, just because Cherie's costumes are so out there and unique to her. Even the way the clothes were made back then, just because a lot of the stuff was vintage -- just that feeling was really cool to have. I loved getting to see a picture of her and then look like that. I've always wanted to play a real person, so it was neat for me.
Me: Julissa asks, if you were to form the ultimate rock band, with musicians from today and of the past, who would you include?
Stewart: Oh, no. I answered the music that I listened to! I can't even begin to try to make a band in my head. (Laughs)
Me: Do you have an all-time favorite guitarist?
Stewart: I don't. I really actually don't. It would take a really long time for me to think of the kind of band I'd wanna make, how they'd complement one another ... it's too loaded.
Me: Well, let's move on to one from Tom: What's the coolest stuff you've gotten from fans?
Stewart: I got a really cool jacket once. And I was freezing, so I really needed a jacket. That was really nice.
Fanning: I always get really cool gifts from Japanese fans. They always send me really cute things you can't find in America. They're usually Hello Kitty, and I love Hello Kitty, so ...
Stewart: You do?
Fanning: Yeah.
Stewart: OK. That's so funny. (Laughs)
Fanning: And you know, like stationery stores that have the walls of pens and things like that? I love that kind of stuff ...
Stewart: You are Japanese.
(A publicist tells me we have a minute left)
Me: Caro wants to know if you watch your own movies.
Stewart: I kind of wish that we'd went to (the Austin Runaways screening).
Fanning: We've seen it five times.
Stewart: But I wish we went to that one because we heard it was really great, it was a real audience. It wasn't movie people. Some actors are like, 'Oh, I don't watch the movie.' But I have to see what happened. I have to see what we did.
Fanning: I look forward to it.
Stewart: Yeah, me too. I have to see everything done. But usually it's hard for me. And it's hard for me to watch this, too -- like, there are parts that make me wanna kill myself. But I love the story so much. And I love the music. So I like to watch it.
Me: You know, most of the questions I got for this interview were from women, which I think is great. What do you think about that, and have you noticed a difference between the Twilight fans and Runaways fans?
Stewart: They're both widely female, which is unique in the business because everyone says -- and it is true -- there's not a whole lot of material for a female-driven audience. I would say they're kind of similar ... It's empowering to read these stories. I feel like both of them are very bold girl stories.
Me: Thanks, guys.

Coming Soon to a Theater Near You

"The Runaways" (March 19)
What more can we write about this eagerly anticipated biopic covering the '70s rockers who broke boundaries, hearts and more than a few pieces of their own equipment? Kristen Stewart rocks out alongside Dakota Fanning, Scout Taylor-Compton and Alia Shawkat, and if the trailer we premiered last month is any indication, this film could prove to the haters that KStew is a lot more than just Bella Swan. Kristen as Joan Jett? Put another dime in the jukebox, baby.
"Remember Me" (March 12)
All of Hollywood is asking one simple question these days: Can Rob Pattinson open a non-"Twilight" movie? We'll find out soon enough, as he stars alongside Emilie de Ravin in this romantic drama that similarly involves family, tragedy and issues of eternal love — but minus the bloodsucking.
"Warrior" (TBD)
Kellan Lutz finally lands his first starring role in this indie film about a lacrosse player who reacts to his father's death by rebelling against anything he can find — until his dad's old Marine buddy becomes determined to straighten him out. Besides the fact that it gives "Twilight" fans a double dose of their favorite stars, there's something oddly fascinating about the fact that Ashley Greene plays Kellan's girlfriend.
"Welcome to the Rileys" (TBD)
James Gandolfini is Doug, a man whose life is in shambles since his daughter was killed eight years ago. Kristen Stewart is Mallory, a 16-year-old stripper who offers him sex — but all he wants is someone to be with while he gets his head together. As Doug's wife also comes into the equation, the couple find themselves acting as surrogate parents for the wayward teen. All reports are that it's KStew's most adult role yet — and we'll learn plenty more soon enough as the Sundance reports roll in.
"Girlfriend" (TBD)
Like so many of his franchise co-stars, Jackson Rathbone will aim to bust out as a leading man in 2010. This intense indie film has Jacksper playing a man caught up in an unorthodox love triangle involving a man with Down syndrome. Jackson is providing the soundtrack through his band 100 Monkeys, and if their music is any indication this will be a film that isn't afraid to take some risks.
"Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" (TBD)
Even if "Twilight" star Anna Kendrick weren't in this, it would still be one of our most anticipated films of the year. Based on the beloved Bryan Lee O'Malley graphic novels, the movie focuses on a 23-year-old slacker (Michael Cera) who falls in love with a girl (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) but has to battle her seven evil ex-boyfriends if he wants to get a chance with her. Kendrick has said the film is "really fun" and that she spends the whole movie screaming at Michael Cera on the phone — sounds good enough for us!
"Eclipse" (June 30)
It's the big kahuna, the top dog, the whole enchilada. And so far, virtually nothing has been released that gives us any indication of what David Slade's "Twilight" movie will be like. Who are we kidding? We're there anyway.
"Valentine's Day" (February 12)
OK, so half of Hollywood is in this movie. But the two that "Twilight" fans will care about most are Taylor Swift and Taylor Lautner — in his first post-"Saga" acting appearance. It promises to be this year's "He's Just Not That Into You," and all indications are that the Taylors have a small amount of screen time. But they spend it making out — so how can you not be curious?
"The Last Airbender" (July 2)
Now we all understand why they dropped "Avatar" from the title. But although this M. Night Shyamalan-directed adaptation of the popular kids' franchise might not make a billion dollars, it still seems likely to be the biggest non-"Twilight" blockbuster that any of the franchise's alumni will be involved with this year. Jackson Rathbone stars as Sokka, a warrior who wields swords and martial arts as powerfully as Jasper Hale does that creepy stare.
"Skateland" (TBD)
Over the last few years, it's been fascinating to watch all the "Twilight" stars navigate their own unique paths from obscurity to ubiquity. Miss Ashley Greene has used her fashion sense and well-spoken demeanor to make the most out of her minimal screen time as Alice Cullen — and now she may be ready to take the next step with this '80s drama about a small-town Texas skating rink. Lucky Twilighters venturing to Sundance will be able to catch a sneak peek of the flick, which should prove that Ashley is ready to take off the training wheels.

BTW - this list isn't comprehensive. There are other movies coming out that involve other Twi actors. Be on the lookout for 'em at your local theater!

New Trailer?
According to Hollywood Crush:
Whereas the first full "New Moon" trailer showed the Edward (Robert Pattinson) and Bella break-up, this trailer focuses on what comes after. There are shots of Bella's motorcycle crash (scenes also shown at Comic-Con), with Jacob (Taylor Lautner) asking her what she was thinking and Jessica asking her if she is an adrenaline junkie now. We see a lot more of Bella's cliff jump (and a totally awesome vision of Edward in the water; props to Chris Weitz on the CGI!) and of Jacob trying to comfort her. We also see Alice (Ashley Greene, a.k.a. our VMA Fashion Correspondent!) explaining to Bella about how Edward thinks shes dead there are some pretty extensive clips showing Italy and Bella's run to Edward, as well as Alice's sexy yellow Porsche.
Visually, "New Moon" is about 10 steps up from "Twilight." There are some quick flashes of Edi Gathegi's Laurent with his brand-spankin' new red contacts and shots of the Sam and the other werewolves before and after their transformations.
The end of the trailer showed some epic fights going on with the Volturi, and we get to hear Bella's token line, "No Edward, dont!" But hands down the best part of the trailer is its final moment, when Dakota Fanning walks toward the screen and states, "This may hurt just a little."
Sounds AWESOME. Need this on the internets yesterday.
And in case you need a refresher, and because text only entries are lame, the previous extended trailer:

New Volturi Stills!

Holy mother, Dakota looks soooo good. And is that a tortured Robward I see in the background? Also, thank you Chris Weitz, not only for making everyone look fabulous, but for paying attention to even such little details as the fact that Alice wore red leather gloves. (She looks fabulous, by the way.)
Looks like this time we actually get a movie that embraces the nuances of the book, rather than something that felt like it was based on Twilight: The Cliff Notes.
I kind of want to kiss Chris Weitz's face.
Is it November yet?
